Hello, Everyone:
Welcome to August and the last full month of summer, officially, although the summer weather pattern often continues into September.
With the end of the Tour de France during the last few days of July, the biggest event in cycling is over for another year. But if the pro racing bug has bitten you hard, there are some outlets to get your cycling fix. The Tour de France Femmes started on Saturday and runs until August 9th.
Lorena Wiebbes won the first two stages, so you have some time to jump in and see the pro women battle it out on the road. Thankfully, unlike in the men’s race, there’s no dominant force like Pogacar, so that makes the race worthwhile to check out. Watch extended stage highlights on YouTube.
Over the weekend, it was also announced that Pogacar and UAE XRG Team Emirates would be participating in the Vuelta Espana in a few weeks. The Vuelta is where Pogacar’s grand tour aspirations began in 2019. And while he has won Le Tour 5 times and the Giro once, he’s never won the Vuelta Espana. So, I’m guessing that, just like Jonas Vingegaard, Pogi wants the Spanish tour as part of his palmares to show he has won all the grand tours.
But if you want to ride in your own one day, 131 mile sportive, as the Europeans call it, then check out my latest post about the Vuelta Chapala in Mexico that occurs on September 26th. But hurry up if you want to participate and cycle around Mexico’s largest natural lake. Entry is by application only. 50 riders are admitted to the race and the fee is $376.
With that, I wish you a good and productive first week of August.
