Monday Update: Pogačar Leads GC After Three Stages; More Crazy Weather Inflicted Upon the Peloton; The Sad Realization Summer is Ending

Hello, Everyone:

Welcome to another Summer Monday.

This past weekend saw the start of the Vuelta a España on Saturday in Monaco with an individual time trial. After three stages, Tadej Pogačar has a small 9 second lead in the General Classification. But it’s early days for a three week race and lots of miles ahead to ride. In pro cycling, things can change in an instant.

By the way, stage three had some other fireworks when the peloton was subjected to rain, lightning, and a hailstorm with 15 kilometers left in the stage. The race was stopped, the riders took shelter in a hotel along the stage route, and the stage was cancelled. Apparently, the stage will not be made up as Tuesday continues with Stage 4.

Speaking of weird and wild weather. It’s been a wet and hot August here in the Midwest with lots of rain and some flooding. But that means the weather has been mild, so great to be out on some good rides. It’s now the last full week of August, which brings the sad realization that summer is approaching its end. So, get out and enjoy these late summer days while you can ride in your summer kit as well as the long hours of light.
