Paul Seixas Crashes and Issac Del Toro Wins Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Other Monday Meanderings

Happy Monday, Everyone:

We’re, unbelievably, at the midpoint in June, which means that summer is already a quarter over. But fret not, we have lots of summer still ahead with long days in the sun for great riding.

Summer is my favorite time of year, but as I’ve gotten older, this time of year seems to shoot by so fast. Today, I read an article about how our perception of time changes from when we were kids compared to what we experience once we are adults. The conclusion made was that we are not present enough in our lives and aren’t making new memories.

I’d agree with this somewhat. But I also think that when we’re kids, we have little to no experience of the world. Everything is new and strange. By the time we are adults in our 50s, 60s, 70s, we have a lifetime full of experiences and life (the world itself) impinges on us in many ways.

What tends to happen with age is that we aren’t learning or experiencing new things like we used to do. So, get out there in the world and enjoy these days, do something new, push yourself outside of your comfort zone, travel to someplace you’ve never been, ride that event you’ve always thought would be too hard. Life is a colorful and evolving tapestry, so see and experience as much as you can while you can because, before you know it, you’ll be in your 80s (if you’re lucky) with a handful of regret for a life not fully lived. Don’t let that happen.

In some brief pro racing news, Paul Seixas, the 19 year old phenom from the Decathlon team, crashed out in a big way during the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, ceding his potential victory to Issac del Toro. It turns out del Torro rides for UAE Team Emirates – XRG and will be Pogacar’s Super Domestique in the Tour de France. He, like Seixas, has a bright future ahead in the pro peloton.

That’s all for now. Have a great week ahead, everyone!
