Calendar Update: Welcome to September & Some Cycling Advocacy

Hello again, everyone, and welcome to September. After Labor Day, which is next Monday, this month is usually considered the official end of summer. The temperatures certainly don’t reflect that viewpoint, though. Fortunately, we still have some warm summer-like days ahead.

The only autumn thing I’ve truly noticed so far is that the days are beginning to get shorter, so make sure to get out and enjoy as many bike rides as you can. There are several cycling events that occur in September, so the season is far from over yet.

While I’m talking about September and the approaching autumn, I wanted to take a few minutes to chat with you about cycling advocacy. Trump, in his infinite and infantile stupidity, has decided that cycling is an activity practiced by liberals and only causes road congestion, so he and his ridiculous excuse for an administration have decided to defund all cycling-related programs. This may be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard uttered by a human, but that’s not surprising when it comes to this president.

My point here is that if you are a cyclist riding on the road, be vigilant as the days get shorter. Avoid busy roads and make sure you have bright, working lights on the front and rear of your bike, and that you wear reflective clothing. If you aren’t a cyclist and you’re reading this and you drive, please be more aware of cyclists on the road during the twilight part of the day or when it’s dark, especially watch out for cycling commuters. Practice cycling advocacy in your neighborhood and get the word out about cycling awareness in your community.

Have a good rest of your week and keep on cycling!
