Annie Kopchovsky (Londonderry) Beats Man’s Record for Around the World Cycling Trip

I’m sharing a story today from Atlas Obscura about the first woman to ride a bike around the world in 15 months. Annie Kopchovsky (at the request of her sponsor, she changed her name to Londonderry) bravely responded to a challenge that a woman could not complete an around the world bicycle trip in 33 months.

Keep in mind this event happened in the late 1800s, so way before mass transportation or any advanced communication systems were in place. She actually did it faster than Thomas Stevens but not without meeting many challenges along the way. This story is in celebration of Women’s History Month. I hope you enjoy this read!
