Now that the holidays are over and the new year has begun in earnest, you might be thinking about getting away from the dreary, cold, and gray of winter. And if you’re thinking about making that trip into a cycling trip in a beautiful and warm part of Europe, look no further than the Hotel Mas Pelegri in Girona, Spain.

About Hotel Mas Pelegri

The hotel was founded by a British couple in 2005, Fiona Smart and Gareth Speechley. Apparently, the building was on the brink of collapse when the two Brits purchased it. The goal was to turn the grounds into an athletic training facility.

Fiona has a PhD and studied body physiology, but now she coaches all types of athletes. Gareth has a background in bicycle racing and has even won some races. He is also an experienced bike fitter.

That point may be intimidating if you’re not a pro athlete of some sort, but Smart and Speechley say that everyone from the beginner to the seasoned pro is welcome. The hotel not only welcomes individuals but also groups and teams.

Although the hotel offers many activities for its guests to partake in, cycling is the major activity. The hotel not only offers road cycling but mountain biking and triathlon. It claims to have 100 routes to choose from that leave right from the hotel, so there’s no need to arrange for transport of you and your gear.

The hotel has a large stable of bikes for rent, and Gareth is a certified bike fitter who will help you dial in your ride. The routes vary in length, terrain, and intensity but there is no limitation on who can do the rides. Here is a companion link, Cycling in Girona, that talks about bike tours, rentals, and training camps.

Other amenities are “Route maps and GPS routes and emergency back up while cycling are included with stay. Coaching, guiding, bike mechanic, bike tools, sports massages, SAG vehicles can all be arranged.”
