Monday Update: Demi Vollering Wins Second Tour de France Femmes; Where Do You Park/ Store Your Bike?

Happy Monday, everyone!

Over the weekend, the Tour de France Femmes came to an abrupt ending with Demi Vollering winning for a second time. There was some drama along the way on stage 8 between her and Kasia Niewiadoma Phinney, but it seems to have resolved itself for the time being.

Women’s pro cycling is just as intense as the men’s version, but the women continue to get less time in the pro spotlight. Their race is 9 stages whereas the men’s race is 21 stages. It would be more interesting if the women’s race had more stages as it would, as in the case of the men, give a chance for more racing and change in the General Classification. 9 stages just doesn’t seem enough.

Plus, the winner of the women’s tour receives 50,000 euros. Of course, there are other income opportunities in a race such as this, where riders are paid per day for a stage win, for each day they are in the yellow jersey, green jersey points, and polka dot points. Still, that hardly comes close to what the men’s race winner gets, which is 500,000 euros.

On my blog last week, I posted about where you can safely park/ store your bike when you are a tourist, commuter, or just an everyday cyclist. The Netherlands has addressed this issue, where many residents use cycling as their primary mode of transportation, by building massive bicycle garages. Check out the blog post. This is something I’d love to see happen in America, but right now we can’t even get decent bike lanes.

Hope you all have a brilliant and productive week ahead!
