In December of 2023, I was in Portugal on a 60th birthday trip. It was a short trip, but I got a good feel for the country, its food, its late fall weather (perfect, btw!), and its culture while I was there. I also saw lots of cyclists riding low-traffic roads with challenging climbs. I could imagine coming back there one day to cycle the area.

If you’ve been to Portugal (or maybe you’ve always wanted to visit), then you know what I’m saying is true: Portugal holds many charms. And perhaps you’re like me and would like to go there on a cycling excursion. 

However, maybe you’re unsure how to do it or how to plan it. Well, the company Live, Love, Ride Portugal Bike Tours (LLRBT) specializes in trips to satisfy your cycling curiosity.

The company is based in Lisbon, Portugal. It offers cycling trips for enthusiasts up to hardcore roadies. While the company seems to have a small staff based on my research of its website, LLPBT hosts trips that cover all of Portugal (it also does cycling trips in Spain).

The goal of the company, however, is to give its guests a unique and beautiful experience where they don’t have to think about anything other than fun on the bike. In fact, during a trip, guests will be in the presence of “experienced local riders [where] you will get to know the country’s rich culture and historic background, taste the local gastronomy and wines and relax at charming hotels and SPAs.“

As already mentioned, the company attempts to match riders/ guests with the right type of bike for the trip they want to take. They have mountain, road, touring, and e-bikes. The company also points out it will build the trip around your cycling skill level.

All trips start in Lisbon or Porto with one trip through the Azores, which is an island region 870 miles off the coast of Portugal. All trips are 7 days and 6 nights except one trip that is for 11 days. Trips start at 1,590 euros ($1,718.23) per person and go up from there.

The Live, Love, Ride Portugal Bike Tours website does offer its guests the ability to build their own trip if one of the company’s standard trips isn’t what they want. All a guest has to do is navigate to the “Create Your Own Bike Tour” option on the main page of the company’s website.

Last Thoughts

If you want to do a bicycle tour of either Portugal or Spain, Live, Love, Ride Portugal Bike Tours seems like as good an option as any out there in the marketplace. Sure, other bicycle tour companies host tours in Portugal.

The fact that Live, Love, Ride focuses on just Portugal and Spain and takes you to places many tours might not make it special. When I eventually get back to Portugal for a cycling trip, I will definitely think about using this company.
