Veloviews for December 23, 2022 – Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

Dove of Peace

Today is Friday and is the last day of work for many before the holidays begin in earnest tomorrow. However, my thoughts go out to restaurant, retail, delivery, and city workers who have to work regardless of what the calendar says and face brutal winter temperatures.

Thoughts for Others

My thoughts also turn to the homeless who may have no one to look after them or even a place to go. I also think of those who have no family to spend the holidays with. As I mentioned in my Thanksgiving post, the holidays are difficult for people living alone, especially the elderly.

And of course, I can’t help but think of places in the world where individual rights are suppressed, such as in Afghanistan and Iran. That there are people living in poverty and starving who can’t afford to give gifts or partake of a Christmas dinner.

I also think about those places in the world ravaged by war, such as Yemen and especially Ukraine where many people will spend the holiday in the cold and without water. I heard a statistic today that 30,000 Ukrainians have either been killed or injured so far in Putin’s illegitimate 9-month-old war.

Last Thoughts

2022 has been a hard year, but the greatest gift we can give to each other that doesn’t cost a thing is our civility, our humanity, and our kindness. Remember this today as you go about your holiday tasks and meet with coworkers, friends, family, or even strangers you pass by on the street.

Peace on earth, peace to you, and a Merry Christmas to all my readers and subscribers. I hope all your dreams or wishes, whatever they may be, will be fulfilled during this holiday season.
