It’s a nice thing to know that the most successful bicycle builders from Europe to America have all had a connection to the sport of cycling. Their passion for the sport allowed them to innovate and to build bikes that not only world-class, professional riders like but also meet the needs of the everyday cyclist.
Nowhere is that more true than with Canyon Bicycles. The father imported and sold bicycle parts and the son was a bike racer. 39 years later, the company is a respected brand that builds bikes of all kinds for cyclists everywhere and internationally for the pro peloton.
Brief History of Canyon Bicycles

In 1985, Roman Arnold and his father entered the world of cycling. Arnold’s father worked at a bike shop ordering in parts and then selling them. Roman, on the other hand, was an amateur bike racer. Both of these perspectives gave the Arnolds the ability to formulate ideas about the kind of bikes they would build.
Things evolved quickly and by 1996 the Arnolds had developed their first branded bike, a mountain bike. By 2001, Canyon became an international brand. Two years later in 2003, the company became the first bicycle manufacturer to offer internet sales.
Very quickly and within its first ten years of operation, Canyon formed international partnerships starting with France in 2006. 17 other markets would follow, including making inroads into the United States.
The following year, in 2007, Canyon would sponsor its first pro team, Unibet.com. By 2016, the company outgrew its current manufacturing facility and built a sprawling new factory in Koblenz, Germany.
Canyon’s Company Wide Mission

Today, Canyon continues to remain competitive, sponsor teams, and sell its bikes worldwide. But from the start, the company’s mission has been motivated by its love of cycling.
The company states it knows the unlimited potential in every cyclist and it wants to inspire every rider. Additionally, Canyon tries to “raise the bar, innovate, and set the standard in everything” it does. That’s why it focuses not just on bikes but also on gear, apparel, and digital experiences.
Its love of cycling also extends beyond building road bikes, probably its most visible and well-known product thanks to professional sponsorships over the years. It also builds mountain, gravel, and even E-bikes.
Last Thoughts

40 years is not such a long time in the world of cycling and bicycle manufacturing. Other brands have been around much longer, but Canyon has achieved so much already.
But its biggest accomplishment is that Canyon has become such a trusted brand among cyclists and pro teams around the world. It will be interesting to see how it continues to grow with the appearance of new bike builders and if it can keep pace with the technological changes and other demands of the cycling industry.
