Cycling Through Boulder, CO

Picture from bike path going toward Boulder, CO

Colorado is definitely one of the most unique and beautiful places in the United States. It’s an excellent place to think about for a summer trip. It’s a mecca for cycling that contains not only stunning scenery but a highly supportive community for the sport of cycling.

Boulder, CO is situated at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. It is a great place to visit for its small city feel with lots of great things to do there. Cycling is only one of them. If you like hiking, white water rafting, climbing, and cycling, Colorado has access to all of that. Plus, Denver is only 30 miles away, a little longer if you choose to bike there, which is absolutely possible.

Excellent Riding On The Bike Path and Road

During my visit to Boulder, I did a mix of riding a bike path (the one pictured above) and some road rides as well. But what impressed me was the bike path, which I could hop on from my hotel, which was a few miles outside Boulder, then ride it to Denver.

Not only is the bike path well structured, but its infrastructure must also have been planned by cyclists. Along the path, you’ll see places to air up your tires and even do some quick maintenance if you need it with tools supplied, something I had never seen before on any bike path/ trail.

The bike path is well maintained and, at points, was just as challenging and fun as doing a road ride. I was also able to do a nice climb to the National Center of Atmospheric Research where scientists study the effects of wildfires, climate change, weather, and other things. Once at the top, you can catch some scenic views of Boulder and the valley below.

The roads I did ride around the Boulder area were in great shape and not so heavily trafficked that I didn’t feel safe. And the views, as you can see, were stunning. I really didn’t know the area, so I found this ride on Map My Ride and imported it into my cycling computer. I don’t remember the distance or name of the ride, but if you click the link above, it should be listed.

Last Thoughts

If you’re going to be in the Boulder/ Denver area for whatever reason, I’d highly recommend fitting in some cycling. There are probably some even more challenging rides out there, but the ones I chose were picked due to the limited time I had to spend in the area.
