I think we all know how rewarding travel can be to places we’ve been then go back or new places. But to me, nothing compares to a cycling trip. While they are great to do by yourself, that leaves you to plan your routes, where you will stay, and places you’ll visit for food or touristy activity.
While not a cheap option, bicycle travel companies take care of all these details for you. Some even add more options and amenities to get you to pick them over another company. So, over the coming weeks and months, I’ll be diving in to tell you about some of the best ones out there. I might even try to land an interview with the owners of some of these companies so they can tell you what to expect if you book a trip with them. So, first up: Trek Travel.
Who is Trek Travel?
Trek Travel is an offshoot company of Trek, an American bicycle manufacturer based in Waterloo, Wisconsin. It’s the only bicycle manufacturer I’m aware of that also offers bicycle trips. Trek has been in the bicycle travel business since 2002, and it offers many types of trips as follows:
- Classic Guided
- Pro Race Experience
- Custom Trips
- Self-guided
- Ride Camps
- Cross Country
The company hosts trips to destinations in Europe, America, South America (Chile), and Asia (Japan). Obviously, this is a boon for them as a bicycle manufacturer because they hope that if you sign up for a trip that you might also buy a Trek bike. In fact, to entice you in that decision even more, they make a Trek bike available to everyone that books a trip.
What’s Included on a Trek Travel Trip

While Trek is a bicycle manufacturer that offers bicycle travel, they wouldn’t be a true travel operation if they didn’t offer support and amenities. These are the things people remember most when they take a trip with a travel company. And if their experience is good, chances are high they’ll book a future trip.
- First class guides
- Trek bike and gear
- Customized ride with GPS
- Trip Accomodations
- Most meals
- Social hour
- Snacks and drinks for each day of riding
- Private tours, tastings, entrance fees, etc.
- Destination details

Typical Trek Travel Trip: Prague to Vienna Bike Tour
With so many trips on offer from Trek Travel, it’s difficult to highlight any specific trip. I’ve never personally used Trek Travel for a cycling trip, so I can’t comment about positives or negatives. However, based on the trip page, I can tell you an overview of what to expect on a trip.
The Prague to Vienna Bike Tour Trek Travel offers is considered one of their signature trips. That means it covers “beautiful destinations by bike” where riders can “enjoy extra inclusions, savor delicious local cuisine, and enjoy the perfect mix of accommodations.” This trip is $3800 per person and is 6 days and 5 nights.
Offered August through September, highlights are cycling, walking tours, and wine pairings. Riders of all levels are welcome with the option to use a Trek Domane SL 7 road bike or a Trek Electric-Assist Verve E-bike. Lunches and dinners are offered, and the hotels are at Trek Travel’s Explorer level, which means “These handpicked hotels provide relaxation and fun in a casual and comfortable environment. Delicious cuisine and great service mix perfectly for a memorable stay.”
