Monday and The End of the UCI Pro Season with a Monument

This past weekend was the official end of the UCI pro season. But it wasn’t a quiet Sunday, but a one-day race known as a monument. In cycling, races titled as monuments are one-day races that are considered the most well-known, prestigious, and hardest races on the calendar.

Winning a monument comes with as much glory as a grand tour, and it’s something all cyclists desire to add to their list of palmarès.

There are five monument races throughout the UCI season, most of which take place in the spring. They are Milan-San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The last one is Il Lombardia happens in the fall, nicknamed the “Race of the Falling Leaves,” which is seen as a treat for climbers and takes place in Bergamo, Italy. The unstoppable and unbelievable Tadej Pogacar picked-up another victory at this year’s race.

Meanwhile, the days are getting continuously shorter. I rode this weekend and there was a slight chill in the air despite temperatures in the mid 70s. So, have a good week, everyone, and get out while you can to ride and enjoy the dwindling warmth and light of these fall days. Fall riding is perfect weather for cycling, not too hot, not unbearably cold with crisp light and cloudless days. Take advantage if you can!
