While the thought of booking a cycling trip to an international destination is exciting, it’s also expensive, complicated, and can present a language barrier, especially if you don’t know Italian, Spanish, French, etc. And if you want to bring your own bike, you have to invest in a case of some kind, break down your bike, then reassemble it once you arrive, plus pay airline baggage fees.

If you’re in America, the country has an unlimited amount of places to ride where you can still experience bits and pieces of European cycling culture. With all the details involved in a cycling trip arranged, all you have to do is show up with your bike and ride and that is what The Cycling House hopes you will do.

Who is The Cycling House?

The company was founded in 2005 by CEO Owen Gue. The Cycling House is based in Missoula, Montana. The primary goal of the company is to create “a vacation-style getaway that you can’t find anywhere else. We live by a “we take care of everything” attitude and a welcome-to-the-family vibe that is sure to re-light the fire in any cyclist.”

With that welcoming attitude toward bicycle travel, The Cycling House aims to go above and beyond what many companies offer. Gue states the ultimate goal is to “...push the boundaries of what you may think of as a typical cycling trip. We strive to wow our guests with our extensive knowledge of endurance sports, an over-the-top attention to detail, and an environment that fosters friendships through riding bikes, exploring new places and great food!”

Expert Staff and a Company Giving Back to Its Community

The Cycling House hires athletes who love and live for cycling and who will happily take on the role of cycling coach, photographer, ride partner, and support crew. Then all the other details, such as world-class food and accommodations, are taken care of. All a guest has to do is book the trip and show up to ride.

The Cycling House is also a business that supports the communities its trips traverse. It supports youth cycling in Montana and assists in building mountain bike trails, so your dollars/ euros go to good causes and not just into the pockets of the company. That’s definitely a reason to feel good about booking a trip!

The company has around 30 employees and staff, which can supply guides and SAG support for the six major trips it hosts. The Cycling House offers trips in North America (Arizona, Montana, California, and Colorado) and Europe (Italy and Spain).

For each of its supported ride locations, The Cycling House will supply a high-quality rental road bike. Or, if you wish to bring your own bike, the company’s mechanics will assist in unpacking and checking over your bike, then help you disassemble it for your drive or flight home.

Cost of a Trip with The Cycle House and What’s Included

Since The Cycle House offers trips to a limited number of destinations, its trips are a bit more expensive. One of its trips, for instance, would involve a guest traveling to Montana (plane fare or drive time is not included in the trip cost).

The trip itself is from Yellowstone to Glacier and runs for six nights/ seven days. The price for this trip is based on double occupancy and is $4,350. It includes the following amenities.

  • Six nights/Seven days accommodations (double occupancy)
  • All meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) for seven days
  • Mechanical support (including bike build and breakdown)
  • Professional trip guides
  • Daily sag support
  • Ride nutrition products
  • High-quality ride photos
  • Arrival Day Airport & Hotel pickups in Billings (BIL)
  • Departure Day Airport & Hotel dropoffs in Flathead Valley/Glacier International (FCA)

If you are seeking a cycling trip in the United States that equals what many bicycle travel companies offer guests when they travel to Europe, then a trip with The Cycling House might be right for you. Of course, the company does offer two major destinations in Europe for cycling trips if you still wish to ride somewhere internationally.

But if taking an international cycling trip seems too expensive and complicated to digest, a trip with The Cycling House seems like a good choice. The factor that would put me off, though, is cost. You might be able to find another bicycle travel company that has similar trips for less money.
