With so many areas to explore in a European country that loves cycling, it might be hard to decide where in Italy to visit. You could drop a euro on a map of the country and visit the place where it lands and probably be satisfied.
If you’re seeking, however, something a little more predictable that offers great cycling, Italian cuisine, cooking classes, massages, and overall affordable luxury without the expense of booking a trip with a bicycle travel company, IL Perlo Hotel in Lake Como, Italy might be ideal.
About Il Perlo Hotel

Lake Como is an hour by train from Milan and three hours by car from Venice. The hotel was built in 1922 and is, according to the Il Perlo website, “a multi-generational family business.” The hotel is situated on the cliffs of IL Perlo where mountain runoff drops into Lake Como. It overlooks the town of Bellagio and the village of Como.
What Does IL Perlo Offer Cyclists?

A high-end hotel such as Il Perlo offers its guests countless amenities and access to numerous activities: yoga sessions, hiking, sailing, wine tasting, cooking classes, massage, and cycling. All this is in addition to comfortable rooms with views of Lake Como below and an elegant restaurant.
But Il Perlo has been classified as a cycling (or at least a cycling-friendly) hotel by others on the internet. What gives it that credential? Well, I think this is a bit questionable. Bike riding is certainly an activity you can partake in while at the hotel, but I’m not sure how specific that is to just cyclists, or even how much the hotel caters to cyclists.
Look for Special Cycling Offers on Il Perlo’s Website or Email Them

On Il Perlo’s “offers page,” there is an option for a cycling-specific stay but it is only for two nights. However, it’s not clear if this is something the hotel always offers or just once in a while or if it can involve a stay longer than two days.
Your best bet would be to email the hotel and see what promotions they are currently offering before booking a room and a plane ticket. That said, here’s what is included in the stay or current offer from the hotel.
- 2 nights stay in a lake-view room
- Breakfast
- Picnic lunch during the ride
- Full-day guided tour with Bike IT
- Post-ride meal
- Apparel washing
- 500 euros per person

The Lake Como region of Italy looks incredible and the Il Perlo hotel looks lovely. So, even if you don’t come to cycle there, I’m sure you’ll be kept busy with all the other activities the hotel has on tap.
But if you’re going to be in Lake Como, perhaps on a trip from Milan or Venice, Il Perlo seems like a great place to stay with quick access to both Bellagio and the village of Como. And hopefully, depending on how long you plan to stay, you might get the chance to do some good cycling.
